2nd ANNUAL STUDENT-TEACHER/PARENT BASKETBALL GAME
by E.G.

What do you get when you mix fun with helping our school? The 2nd Annual Student v. Teacher/Parent Basketball Game is the answer. This event was used to raise money for the WMS Chorus transportation. The teacher's team, the "Dynos," short for Dynamite or Dinosaurs, wanted to wait and see how it went. The student's team called themselves the "Bus Drivers," because they were "taking the teachers to school."

The first half had the students leading and the fans going crazy. However, after half-time, Coach Allen and his team caught up to finish the game. The score was 35 to 45 in favor of the teachers. The students may have lost, but there still is good news. We raised $975 in that one night! In a post-game interview, Coach Stech said he regretted not getting all of his players in the game, but he also declared "next year the students will win!"

WRESTLING
by E.G.

This year the Woodstown Middle School wrestling team had a great season. The team was 4-1 in matches. Woodstown did extremely well this season against the fellow Tri-County League competitors. The league consists of teams from places such as Penns Grove, Pitman, Glassboro, Schalick, and more. Our boys in WMS had great success when they wrestled these teams. They took the bronze medal among ten teams.

Our Middle School team consisted of 36 teammates. These boys included: BW, CB, PM, JL, TG, MS, SS, KD, JS, DB, CM, CJ, CJ, DW, AW, RS, CS, JR, GO, JL, MK, ZK, AH, PH, DD, CD, ZD, MC, CC, MC, KC, TB, KB, TB, and CB. The team also had two "co-coaches."

Mr. Pat McCurdy was primarily responsible for the older kids, referred to as the "intermediates." On the other hand, Mr. Chris Kirkendol was mostly responsible for the "juniors." They also had a tremendous amount of assistance from Mr. Joe Dorety and a few past wrestlers from Woodstown. Even a couple of current Woodstown High School wrestlers helped out because they knew these kids were future teammates. Coach Adam Hyland had taken the practices to another level when he came. "We try to follow Coach Hyland's philosophy and strategies when teaching the Middle School kids so that their transition to his high school team will be seamless. His knowledge of the sport is second to none and his leadership has been indispensable," said Mr. Kirkendol.

Wrestling requires serious skill and strength. The wrestlers had to get into tip-top shape to win. They had grueling practices working on stamina, agility, technique and mental toughness. A tremendous amount of pushups, sit-ups, and agility drills were used to put these kids into incredible shape. However, to really prepare, they would have to live wrestling to work on balance, positions, and core strength. All this work led the Woodstown team to a successful season and high hopes for next year.
