Community Service Activities

I try to be as involved in the community in which I live which is my teaching community and the school community. I have assisted with community groups and have been involved with the American Cancer Society. My classes in the Middle School have participated in the "Hoops for Heart" program sponsored by the American Heart Association. I have run in numerous road races and open ocean one-mile swims for cancer patients. In the school community I officiate the powder puff football game every year. This game is played every Thanksgiving evening and is a fund-raiser for our cheerleaders. I also chaperone the homecoming dance and assist with the valet parking at the junior-senior prom. I have participated in the graduation ceremony for the past twenty two years and have been a chaperone on the senior cruise on graduation night. Last fall I assisted with the new playground at the Marlton Recreation Park. This fall season I will be assisting with the fall festival in the Borough of Woodstown.

EDUCATIONAL HISTORY AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

I graduated from Catawba College in 1984 with a degree in physical education and health. I have been a teacher in the middle school and the high school in the Woodstown-Pilesgrove Regional school district since 1987. I belong to the NEA and the NJEA. In addition I am a member of the NCA (National Coaches Association) and the United States Lifesaving Association. I have had the opportunity to have four student teacher's in the Woodstown-Pilesgrove Regional school district. I think that all four of the student teachers had a good experience which was rewarding for theirselves and the students. I have had the honor of being selected as our districts teacher of the year as part of the Governor's Teacher Recognition Program in 1990-1991 and was selected as the "Salem County Teacher of the Year" for the 2003-2004 school  year.

 PHYSICAL EDUCATION OBJECTIVES

As a physical education teacher I believe in motivating for fitness activities begins with good role models. I like to lead by example because I believe children and young adults will learn by example. The main objectives of a physical education class should be to improve endurance, increase strength, develop better motor skills, improve health practices and to have a upgraded adjustment to society. To accomplish these goals the teacher must be industrious and enthusiastic about their job. This makes physical education a lot more interesting and self-motivating for the students.
