Welcome to my webpage! This year I am spending most of my day as the ICR teacher in Mr. Stemberger's third grade classroom. We have been learning about elapsed time and telling time in five minute intervals, building with triangles, identifying right angles in shapes, counting the vertices of shapes and measuring shapes in area and perimeter. In our Trailblazers Math Program we have had the opportunity to work in teams and use a host of math manipulatives. A variety of games using spinners and cards has added to our enjoyment and learning in math class! We also have been learning how to spell new words and identify sounds we hear in words utilizing the Rebecca Sitton Spelling Program. Once again we work as teams and try to create as many words as possible using our newly introduced sound. We have a weekly spelling test and are able to practice our new words through motion and a great game called CHERRY PIE! Parents ask your children about this great CHERRY PIE ACTIVITY. It sure makes spelling our new words fun. Reading about The Mouse and the Motorcycle has been interesting and engaging. We made connections to our own lives as we read this great book in class. We put together a main idea flip book illustrating the main idea and writing the main idea. We are increasing our vocabulary by guessing a word meaning and looking for the correct definition in our dictionaries. We are looking forward to creating projects to go along with this fun mouse tale!
Our fourth grade students have been investigating volume, communicating solution strategies, creating point graphs, estimating using these graphs, solving multiplication word problems, and practicing with our triangle division flash cards. Homework in this class is assigned Monday through Thursdays. A reward system is in place which enables each student to earn money for good behavior. At the end of each week the student is able to spend their hard earned money in our classroom store. The store inventory is changed often in order to increase the students' interest level.
