Hi! Welcome to Second Grade
Second grade is so much fun! We have been studying many interesting things
already. We started out the first few weeks of school learning about
monarch butterflies. In Science, we will complete units on Plants and Plant
Growth Development, Dinosaurs, and Soils. In Social Studies we will study
Native Americans, Colonial America, The Revolutionary War, Pioneer Times,
Civil War, and America/Flag Day. Math will provide many new learning games and
challenges. Students will be able to add and subtract 2 digit numbers with
and without regrouping by the end of the Year. Reading will expand to chapter books read independently or in
groups and comprehension will continue to be a focus. Different forms of
writing will be introduced throughout the year. As the year progresses I
will update you on the specific skills we will be working on in each area.

General Information
Students may enter school at 7:35 and classes
begin at 7:50. Coming to school on time is very important
since we start Guided Reading at 7:50 each morning.
Snow

If it snows, we usually go outside for a
short time. There are always many lessons to learn while out in the snow.
It also provides for great exercise. Please send you child to school with
hats, gloves and boots on these days.
Clothing

Each child should have their name written
inside the tag on their coats, sweatshirts and sweaters. This helps
alleviate many discussions and lost articles. Please encourage
students wear warm clothing for outside recess.
Lunches

We are now using Power lunch at the
Shoemaker school. This program allows you to put money in an account
which you can monitor from the internet. Students use their ID card to
purchase lunch.
