This is the homepage for the Basic Skills program in the high school. I am the Basic Skills teacher for the high school and I would like to explain the Basic Skills program here at Woodstown High School.
-
First of all, students are chosen for the Basic Skills program based on teacher recommendation and their scores on standardized tests such as GEPA and HSPA, as well as the PSAT and the PSSS, as well as their grades.
-
The Basic Skills program involves students who need extra help in math, reading or writing. Students who need additional help in math are scheduled for Math Labs which are taught by several different math teachers. Students who require help in reading and writing take English Labs, which I teach along with Mr. Golladay and Ms. Sassi. The Basic skills program meets five days a week and enhances students' basic skills in math or language arts as well as helping to prepare students for the HSPA (High School Proficiency Assessment-the graduation test that all students are required to take as juniors). Seniors may also be enrolled in a program called SRA, which stands for Special Review Assessment. The SRA allows students who are unable to pass the HSPA to still be able to graduate from high school.
-
Students, once selected for Basic Skills, remain in the program the entire year unless they are seniors and pass the HSPA.

The selection of Basic Skills students is based on test scores, teacher recommendation, and grades.
