Woodstown High School National Honor Society

The National Honor Society was founded in 1921, with the hope of creating an organization that would recognize and encourage academic achievement while developing other characteristics essential to productive citizens.  The objectives of its founders “were to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the nation’s secondary schools.”  Woodstown High School students are invited to join the National Honor Society in the fall of their junior year. 

National Honor Society Criteria:

Each student eligible for the Woodstown High School Chapter must exemplify the following Criteria.

Scholarship:  In order to be considered for the Woodstown High School Chapter of the National Honor Society, a student must have a cumulative average of 93. 

Leadership:  In the two school years prior to consideration, a student must have a total of 15 points from an approved list of school and community activities (Please see the list in the Need More Information Section) .  Students who serve as officers of listed school activities or athletic team captains will receive one additional point per year they serve as in that leadership position. 

Service:  Students must have a total of 10 verifiable hours of community service during the two years prior to consideration.  These community service hours cannot be in conjunction with school activities they are using for leadership points.  This requirement will begin with the class of 2014. Character:  Students being considered for NHS are expected to be conscientious and dependable, to demonstrate academic honesty, to use language that does not offend others, to work constructively with others, and to demonstrate appropriate behavior and a positive attitude.  Teachers who have taught or coached the NHS candidate will have the opportunity to evaluate these students on character.
